With the new year officially started, it is time to start cleaning up our lives! While you may be cleaning out those jeans that you are not wearing in your closet, you might also want to clean out your inbox as well! Let’s talk about why you need to clean your inbox, and how to do it!
Why should you clean your inbox?
Let’s face it, throughout the year we all sign up for a ton of emails we don’t need. I often see people with hundreds of unread emails, and I seriously wonder how they get through their day. If you clean out your inbox not only are you going to cut down on the amount of junk in your inbox, but you can also use it to see what you are actually interested in.
There are probably emails in there that you have never opened. While you are cleaning up your life, why not take the time to clean up something that you use every day? Not only is it going to cut down on emails you need to sift through, but it also keeps your inbox a lot more organized.
Take the time to organize your inbox
If you use your email for a variety of things, then it is worth taking the time to organize it. Separate emails into distinct folders. For me, I have work, shopping, family, and general as the main folders in my email. When I did this, I also went through deleted older emails that I no longer needed anymore. You can set certain emails to head into those emails in the future as well.

This is actually something that I am currently in the process of! While I try not to subscribe to too many email lists, sometimes I get drawn in. If you are not opening an email from a certain brand, company, or creator, then you have no point in being subscribed to them. On the other side, sometimes people overwhelm you with emails. If you’re getting annoyed with the number of emails you get about after Christmas sales, then it is time to say goodbye!
Make checking your inbox a habit
I check my email at least twice a day which keeps the need to clean my inbox to a minimal. By staying on top of what is coming into my inbox, it has become really easy to keep emails read and responded to. It has made my life so much easier! If you are signed up for social media platforms like Pinterest, you know it can get annoying! I actually created a separate email to use for social media accounts to cut down on the junk.
