Listen, taking photos can be seriously hard! So many bloggers struggle when it comes to taking photos for their blog, but you can make it easier, seriously! I’m going to show you how you can make your stock photos with things that you already have lying around your house! I’m also going to share a few of my favorite things to use for photos!
You’re already surrounded by props!
When it comes to finding cute things to put in your stock photos, you already have so many! I used to think that I had to go out and buy new things all of the time for photos, but then I realized I already had a ton of props around me! You can use things such as these super cute barrettes I picked up on Amazon, your favorite pair of sunglasses, or anything from your makeup collection.
If you are looking into getting some new props for your stock photos, then go for it. As a somewhat hoarder of blog props, make sure that you’re buying useful things! One of my favorite things to pick up is fake flowers which can double as home decor!
The background matters!
A clean background makes for a happy stock photo! Even if your house might not be Instagram-ready, you can fake it! Almost every blogger on Earth has the infamous marble contact paper. Not going to lie, I kind of love it! I have a piece of foam board which acts as a white background, and on the other side, I put the marble contact paper on the other side. I have even put it on this round table top which is another one of my favorite backgrounds to use.
Even if you’re not in the mood to get new items, you can use blankets, sweaters, or sheets to make a clean background. The whole reason you want a clean background is so that your props can be the main focus!
Lighting is going to make the biggest difference
Every time I mention taking blog photos or stock photos, I always enforce the importance of lighting. Lighting can make or break a photo. Personally, I don’t have the best lighting in my office, so I have to overcompensate. While natural lighting is the best option, there are ways to get around it. I picked up this lighting kit almost two years ago, and it has saved me so many times! Something else you can do is get daylight bulbs as a replacement. Not only are they better for your electricity bill, but it gets rid of that horrible warm-toned lighting!
You can make stock photos with a camera or phone!
Here is a news flash, you don’t have to have a professional camera to take your own stock photos! Even though a professional camera is great, many phones take photos that are just as great! I’m not going to lie though, I love my Olympus camera, and I have been using it forever. Depending on what I’m shooting, I’ll switch out the lenses. I like to take my Instagram photos with just my regular phone, and any of my travel photos are done with my phone as well!
