I know, it’s kind of scandalous for a blogger to quit caring about Instagram. If you have read any articles in the past few years then you probably think that the only way to have a successful blog is to have a successful Instagram. A few months back I quit caring about Instagram altogether, and I swear it has made such a difference in my life. If you’re stressing about growth, annoyed with the platform, or dealing with mental health issues, keep reading!
It seriously doesn’t matter
I’m not totally sure when it became cool to worry about what strangers think about you on the internet, but it somehow has happened. I found myself stressing out about what people thought of my life, and it was actually making me think that my life sucked. The feeling of inferiority and the dreaded imposter syndrome were taking over.
When it comes to Instagram, if you’re not doing it for yourself, you’re doing it for the wrong reason. Even if you’re trying to make money off of your social platforms, you need to make sure that you’re having fun with it first.
Social media doesn’t owe you anything
I’m not one for manifestation, and to be honest, I’ve tried! You’ve probably read tons of blog posts about how to grow your Instagram, and they all probably include putting a ton of time and effort into your social media accounts. I did the $1.80 method a while back, and while it did work, I was spending more time on social media than I wanted to.
That being said, social media doesn’t owe you anything. It doesn’t care how much time you spend, and sadly, I’ve learned that the hard way! I really quit caring about Instagram when I realized that no matter what I do, Instagram doesn’t work with me! The algorithm is just an absolute mess!

What I’m doing instead!
Since I decided to restart on Instagram, I’ve been just posting what I want. I don’t worry about it fitting into a color scheme, and I’m not worried about my how my feed looks, period! Not only do I feel a weight lifted off of me in terms of content creation, but I think it’s easier to show the real me!
It’s also given me time to go do a ton of other things! I’ve been able to focus more on the blog and actually write what I want to write about. I’ve been able to focus more on our upcoming house, and I’m finally caught up on laundry!

Hannah HayYou’re so welcome girl!

I love this! Instagram is so much better when you post what you want. There’s no point trying to please other people, as it’s your feed and people should come to you rather than trying to force yourself into an audience. Great post xx

Yes to this post! I’m currently focusing more on my blog rather than spending so much time on Instagram and I feel a weight lifted off of me. I feel like Instagram can leave me feeling exhausted and unaccomplished, whereas I’m always happy to work on my blog. This was a great post to read today xx

DianaThank you so much Diana! We have put so much focus on something that we don’t even own, this is why blogs are more important than ever!

Love this! Instagram can feel like such a chore sometimes. As much as I do get inspired by the platform, the amount of time I spend worrying about growth and themes really outweighs it.

You are completely right! Insta is such a pain. I do enjoy the scrolling, but growth is something I seriously cannot bother to worry about.
I always used my personal account for my blog, but after having some privacy issues, I opened a new one for my blog and turned the old one to private. It has been a nuissance to work on it, while I love posting, I cannot do it every single day. Thank you for this refreshing post!

NataliaOmg, I couldn’t imagine having more than one IG, that would drive me crazy. At the end of the day, it really is just about having fun!

So great that you started just posting what you enjoy the most without really thinking whether or not it will be liked. I do exactly the same!
I use ig as an inspiration!

I wish I could share this a million times! I feel like you expressed how a lot of us feel so perfectly. Social media, especially Instagram, can make us feel so bad about ourselves. What’s the point of that? Totally agree that even if it makes us money, it isn’t worth us feeling terrible. Love that you restarted and are just being YOU. 🙂
