How to Organize Your Life Before the New Year

Thankfully 2020’s end is just a few days away! The idea of a fresh beginning is always something that motivates many of us, and this year is absolutely no different. 2021 is bound to be better than this year, right?! Here is how you can organize your life before the new year arrives!

Create an end of year to do list

To really organize your life before the new year arrives, it is time to create that final to-do list. If you are anything like me then you probably have a ton of stuff that you have been putting off as long as you can. Just know that there is absolutely no shame in any of that, we all do it!

You can create this list on your phone, your computer, or even a platform such as Notion. Put everything on there that you don’t want to do. This may include changing the filters, getting your oil changed, or even to clean out your closet. You will feel so much better once all of these things are done and they won’t be hanging over your head.

Create Goals, Dreams, or visions for the new year

In all honestly, I never create resolutions. I always forget about them! Something that I have done over the past few years is create a vision for the new year or to create a list of goals I want to accomplish in the new year. I have found that physically writing them out helps me remember them and it send them into the universe as well!

You can create huge goals for yourself if you want to, but these can really be any size you want. I have found it super helpful to create different sizes that I can work on through the year. One of my personal goals for this year is to journal and meditate every single day, but another one is to learn a new language!

Start a Deep cleaning project

Sometimes the idea to organize your life for the new year can be something literal! We are all in the process of taking down our holiday decor right now, so why not take this time to do a bit of organization?! A couple of days before I took down my trees I went through different closets and did a general declutter.

I am a huge fan of a deep clean and it is something that I do at least one a month in our house. Another way to start a cleaning project is to simply do one room at a time. When you take down your decor, deep clean that room. It is honestly as easy as that!

Get Personal

You should also seriously consider organizing your mind and soul as well. We all have gone through a lot this year. Even if you were not severely impacted by the current situation, you could have dealt with some issues in another way. Do yourself a favor and do a brain dump. Write down how you are feeling, what you want to do, anything. Just get it out!

By writing everything down you are able to sit with it and actually absorb your thoughts and feelings. For some of you, choosing to put yourself first may be more difficult than you think. Don’t be afraid to create boundaries with others. Stop thinking that everything else is more important than your health and especially your mental health.
