It almost seems like since social media has grown in popularity, more and more bloggers are neglecting their blog. Some people are more interested in growing their numbers instead of concentrating on the content they are creating.
There are quite a few ways that you could be neglecting our blog and don’t worry, even I’m guilty of some in the past! Here are ways to know if you’re doing it, and some ways that you can fix it as well!
You’re focusing more on social media
I’ve mentioned this a few times, mostly around the that Instagram blackout that happened a while ago. If you’re focusing more on social media and neglecting your blog, then you need to remember that you don’t own social media. You own the content you are creating on your blog, and then no one can take that work away from you. This is really important if you are working with brands too!
You’re not utilizing your older content
The great thing about a blog is that you’re constantly creating content. Maybe you hit a spot where you’re not able to create content, but you can still promote your older content. I’ve had a blogging slump that kind of made me just not feel like working on the blog. I realized that I was still able to create new pins and share my content even if I wasn’t currently creating anything new. Pinterest is a great tool for driving new traffic to your older content!
How you can stop neglecting your blog
Realize the importance of what you’re doing! There are so many people who start blogs, but there aren’t many people who stick with them. Being a blogger is more about being passionate about the content you create instead of just trying to make money. If you’re making content that reflects who you are, then you’ll have no problem turning that into a profitable venture in the future.
With all of this being said, you can still care about social media! The great thing about content creation is that you are never limited to just one platform. You can use social media and blogging at the same time without one suffering. If you’re more focused on your blog, then share small snippets on your Instagram. Maybe Instagram is your main goal, but you can still have a blog that allows you to go more in-depth with posts.

Hi Ashlee!
I have totally fallen in the trap of neglecting my blog and let me tell you I have regretted it so much! However, I decided that my focus will be on it for now, since I missed creating content I’d love to read! Thanks for the reminder.

This is really true for me sometimes especially when I’m travelling. The last time I went to Canada I missed posting on my blog for a week which never happened before. I felt like I can compensate by posting in Instagram but it’s still a different feeling. Thanks for the reminder, you’re a gem!

I was thinking about this the other day because I was feeling a shift in the blogosphere and seeing a lot more people post on social media than their blogs. I figured it was because of the new IG algorithm. I also feel like it’s so much easier to post on social media than the blogs because you take a picture, create a caption and pretty much done. I have been tempted to just focus on my social media channels but I do love my blog and regardless of numbers, I never want it to be neglected. Btw, if you create a pin on canva and pin that on Pinterest, does that automatically direct to your website or you must create a pin and then add those on your website? I hope you had a great weekend and happy Monday!

MaureenHey Maureen! Social media is definitely a lot easier than blogging, and I think that is something a lot of people are thinking about in terms of how busy they are. On Pinterest, there is a red plus sign at the top and you can add your pin description, link to your blog, and title along with the graphic. You can also add them into your blog post or page and use the Pinterest “pin it” button (which you can get through a plugin!} to add your graphic to Pinterest! Hope that helps! If you have any more questions, let me know!

These are definitely some easy-to-fall in traps, Ashlee! So glad you shared this post. While I haven’t been focusing necessarily more on social media, there has just been a lack of planning for me lately. A lot of life stuff is happening at the moment, and I find myself wanting to rest instead of putting in time on the blog. I’m definitely ready to hop back to it though!

AshleyTaking care of you is always number one! When I found myself not having enough time to mentally rest or create to the quality I want to, I cut back. Your blog will always be there which is the best thing!

I’ve noticed the shift too! Social media consumes us into it’s black hole and it’s super easy to fall into the trap. I’ve been guilty of this as well lately, primarily focusing on Instagram and taking a break, but it’s really easy to fall into that hiatus and habit of not posting anything at all once you get into it. Lovely post, Ashlee!

Sophia (Bookwyrming Thoughts)Thanks so much Sophia! It is so easy to fall into especially when you consider how much work goes into a blog post versus how easy it is to throw up a post on Instagram!

I really enjoyed the truth in this post! I have been majorly neglecting my blog for such a long time now. I was concentrating on social media a lot but, I also lacked motivation/inspiration. I no longer related to my niche meaning I just didn’t want to create content. Thankfully I realised this and am now in the process of changing my content!

chloe dentonGirl, I feel you! I did the exact same thing! Once I stopped trying to fit into a mold and create what I wanted to create, it’s like my creativity and energy came right back!
