How I Found My Own Interior Decor Style

I’m so heavily influenced by Instagram and Pinterest! I was convinced that I knew what I wanted when it came to home decor, but wow was I wrong. We started from a completely blank slate. The majority of the furniture we had was going to be replaced, and we decided to paint the walls with different shades of white. Finding my own interior decor style has actually come quite easily, and here is how!

I Took A Look At What I Already Had

When we moved into this house, we pretty much had nothing. I did not want to spend a fortune on picking up new things, so I looked at items that we already had. As I unpacked boxes, I selected items that I thought would look good in a specific room and put them there. From there, it helped me get an idea of what I wanted the room to look like, as well as items that we needed to add.

I Picked Items That Were Neutral

The older I have gotten, the more I have become comfortable with neutrals. They are typically much easier to find and match, they are not going to go out of date, and mostly gender-neutral. The larger pieces such as the majority of the furniture we had to pick out I made sure were in neutral colors because that is what we both like. It is also much easier to change smaller things in your home such as decor as it is to change an entire furniture theme.

I Did Not Want To Shy Away From Color

Although my interior design style consisted of quite a few neutrals, I knew that I could not just run away from adding color. By selecting colors that I enjoyed being around, I could add color into our rooms that we enjoyed being around and that did not clash with what we already had. We focused on a lot of warm colors as well as the green from our serious amount of plants that we have somehow accumulated over time.

I Took Will’s Opinion Into Consideration

Lastly, I’m not living alone! Everything I have picked out, I wanted to get Will’s opinion on. Mostly because he has to look at it too! Although our styles are different, we have found a way to blend them together. In some areas, you can see me, others him. It also made it more fun to pick certain items out together.

Looks warm and cosy home. Neutral coloured furniture and tiles are classic and gives a homey feel.
