Is Instagram hiding likes, what could this mean?

Unless you have been living under a rock, you’ve heard about Instagram running a test in Canada where the amount of likes a user receives on a post is hidden from everyone except the creator. If you haven’t, then you should read this article from CNN! With that being said, could the idea of Instagram hiding likes could actually be a good thing for the blogging and content creation community.

Our mental health is suffering

I’m speaking for a large demographic here, but I think we can all agree, right? Now more than ever, social media is having a serious impact on our lives. We wake up thinking we aren’t good enough, and really aren’t living our lives the way we want to. Since when did it become cool to worry about strangers on the internet? Weren’t we warned about this? With Instagram hiding likes from other users, it is actually giving our mental health a break! We won’t’ have to worry about how many likes we get on a photo! Even Instagram has noticed that this is a serious issue with how it impacts the users’ mental health levels. Check out this post about my feelings on social media!

The focus is back on the content

Social media has really become nothing more than a popularity contest, right? It’s all about how many followers you have, how many likes you get, how many comments you are receiving. With Instagram hiding likes, the focus is put back on the content. Personally, I’m really excited about this aspect of it! Not only does it give people a chance to get recognized, but it also makes people want to work harder, which I think is pretty cool.

It gives smaller creators a chance

There are so many users who are creating AMAZING content on Instagram. I’m honestly shocked every day by the creativity of people. One problem that arises is that some creators aren’t as popular as others. They don’t have thousands of likes or hundreds of comments, but their content is far above standard. If Instagram is hiding likes, then there is a bigger chance for those users to get recognition, credit, and opportunities.
