Ever since I started blogging, so many people have emphasized the need to be an Instagram brand. I’m not talking about selling clothes, but almost in a way selling yourself. Showing off your lifestyle, your closet, your vacations. While we all love to see these things, isn’t there a limit to what we want to share? What if I don’t want to be an Instagram brand?
It just doesn’t feel natural
Some people on Instagram have absolutely nailed being their genuine and honest selves. Others, life just cannot be that perfect. While we all know people typically share the best parts of their lives, not everyone realizes that. There are so many young impressionable girls who are looking up to their favorite Instagrammers.
While I don’t think I’ll be anyone’s idol anytime soon, I would never want someone to strive for a lifestyle that they may never achieve or even want at the end of the day. The only thing that I try for on Instagram is just, to be honest with myself and others. Authenticity is a huge factor in social media right now, and it is actually the reason I deleted my old Instagram account!
We are placing too much importance on social media
Seriously though, we need to stop! There are so many people who live their life by what would look good on Instagram, and that just blows my mind. While everyone can live they life how they want, we need to make sure we realize life isn’t on social media. The real reason I don’t want to be an Instagram brand is because I enjoy my everyday, non-glamorous life! Not everything is white-washed and peach. My food isn’t always perfectly arranged on my plate, and my hair is a wreck 95% of the time. I don’t know when we all started caring so much about strangers on the internet.
Why is an Instagram brand even something to strive for?!
I mean, honestly. Since when was it cool to have to prove yourself to people that you will most likely never meet? When I was growing up, there were no social media platforms. I thank a higher power for that every day because it would have 100% ruined my self-esteem. Being cool on Instagram will never make you better than anyone else. Start enjoying social media again by posting what you want, sharing your real life, and just getting out of the Instagram norm!
