My hair and I have always had a weird relationship. Sometimes she and I get along great, other times we are mortal enemies. With that being said, getting my hair back in good condition was something that I knew I had to do. Here is exactly how I improved the health of my hair over the past year.
Seriously cut back on heat
For the past twenty or so years, I used to use so much heat on my hair. I used to blow dry it after the shower and then I would go right into using a flat iron to get it straight. Earlier this year I decided to pick up the Revlon One Step hairdryer and it literally changed my entire hair routine. I can dry and straighten my hair in a quarter of the time that it used to take me.
Starting Using Products Made For My Hair
If you are new, then you may not know that my hair is naturally very dry and VERY curly. You can find a point of reference if you follow me on Instagram to see what my hair looks like! I decided to start using products designed for curly hair even if I planned on blow drying my hair. I have noticed an increase in the moisture in my hair, a serious increase in the strength of my strands, and my hair actually growing quite quickly. Here are the products I use:
Started drinking Way More Water
Seriously, how long have I harped on about the importance of actually consuming enough water?! Probably since I started blogging almost five years ago. Over that period of time, there have been many times when I completely ignored my water intake. Well, this year has changed. While I have no proof, I do think that increasing my water intake has increased the health of my hair tremendously. I think cleaning up my diet and keeping myself hydrated allowed my body to let my hair grow at a quicker rate than it usually does.
Invested in a Silk Pillowcase
Legit, the best thing that I did for my hair was to finally purchase a silk pillowcase! Not only does it have a ton of health benefits for your skin, but it also is great for reducing frizz on your hair as well. This all came from purchasing a satin bonnet for my curls and realizing that I could not sleep with the bonnet on my head. Not only does it have so many beauty benefits, but it also helps regulate my sleep temperature which I love.
Actually Made an effort!
Once I cut my hair in 2019, it was an instant regret. I was going through some personal things and that typically results in a hair change, sadly. I knew that with the majority of my damaged hair cut off I had the chance to really take care of my hair. With this, I made the conscience decision to reduce heat usage, use the correct products, and to actually do the research to figure out my hair type and even my curl pattern!
