Especially over the past year, so many of us have just felt off in some way. It could be because of our current situation as a society, or even just something personal that you have been dealing with. The good news is that there are ways to start feeling like yourself again.
Cut Out The Nonsense
If you are like me, then you probably wish that you could turn back time, right? How easy did everything seem when we were seven?! One of the easiest ways to start feeling like yourself again is by eliminating anything that makes you feel less than how you should be feeling. If you really worry about social media and what others think, just straight up delete them. If you have a job that you hate, then start trying to find a new one.
The nonsense that you deal with may also be in real life. I have mentioned how important boundaries are, and even sometimes you need to create boundaries with people you love. A lot of times you can get overwhelmed by every day life. Especially if you have a lot of information coming from a lot of different places.
Do a Brain Dump
Something that has always helped me is to just empty out my brain. I get a lot of different ideas in my head, I hear a lot of different things, and they can basically do circles in my brain. This is one of the main causes for my panic attacks. The good news is that by doing a brain dump, you can seriously change your mindset and outlook.
For me, my brain dumps look like journal entries. I have a few general questions that I answer each night before bed about my day, how I am feeling, what I want to do tomorrow, and sometimes I can expand on that just by writing. For you, it may be easier to simply write down words that you are feeling into different lists.
Don’t Be Afraid to Get Professional Help
Listen, sometimes the best way to start feeling like yourself again is to talk to someone. We cannot do everything on our own, and we don’t have to! There are tons of ways to connect with someone to help you work through how you are feeling. If you are not ready to talk to someone on a professional level or maybe it is not in your budget, then reach out to a friend or family member to listen to you. Mental Health America has a ton of articles on where and how to find people to talk to!
Put Yourself First
So many people are not taking care of themselves right now. Seriously! If you have gone through a major life change such as a move, a new child, a marriage, an illness, or even a transition due to the pandemic, then chances are you are forgetting how important self care can truly be.
Make sure that you are being honest with yourself. It is really one of the only ways to start feeling like yourself again. Set aside however much time you have a day and do something for yourself. Read a book, listen to your favorite song, take a long bath, cook a nice dinner. Just do something for yourself each day.
Simplify Your Life
Something that I have been doing is simplifying my life. I have cut out anything that is not aligned with what I want my life to be like. I have also stopped doing things that don’t bring me any joy. If I don’t want to do something, then I straight up am not going to do it. It has been so much easier to enjoy my life once again.
