When we started thinking about building this house, I knew that I wanted to work on a lot of projects. Projects that made our lives easier! The spice cabinet in our old house was always a disaster. A DIY spice drawer was one of the first projects I wanted to tackle. Not only will it organize your spices, but it will help make cooking fun!

Get out the tape measurer!
The first step you should take is to measure out the size of your drawer. This is an important step because it can help you determine how many bottles you can fit inside of your drawer. I picked this set up from Amazon for under $25 bucks, and they measure just slightly over 4 inches per bottle. I ended up ordering another set to put the remainder of our spices in our pantry. This makes it easy to switch out what we are using. I ended up being able to fit 4 rows of 7 bottles, and I can fit extra in there at the top or bottom on their side.
You can also use a dowel rod if that makes it easy for you. If you are just using a rod, cut the rod to the length of your drawer. You will want to glue or secure the rod somehow toward the top of the shelf. This keeps your drawer slanted for easy use. Although I initially planned on creating inserts, it was easier for us just to place the bottles in the drawer, and it allowed us to fit more inside. Some call it the lazy method, I call it the practical one!
Organizing your drawer
Taller bottles tend to work best for this project, but you can select whatever you like. I loved the set I picked up from Amazon because not only was it affordable, but it also came with lids, a funnel to get the spices in, shaker lids, and labels. Personally, I find that organizing them alphabetically is the best manner of organization.
For the spices that did not fit completely fit in the jars, we keep them in our pantry. We are spice fanatics in this house, so we have a pretty quick turnover. The lid is secure, and we have not had an issue with spices drying out or spilling. I took the time to read reviews to make sure that I was selecting a great bottle. Like I mentioned, putting all of your spices in jars makes sure that your drawer always looks neat. Most of us use different spices in different seasons.

Very aesthetically pleasing! Our spice cabinet is disorganization at its best. I’ve thought about reorganizing it but haven’t found anything that I like. I do like how all your bottles look the same, I think I may be digging that look. Thank goodness for Amazon, lol. You can find pretty much anything on there. Thanks for sharing your DIY and organization tips doll, stay safe!

This is so cute, I love how organized everything is! I’m currently trying to organize my boyfriend’s place a bit so we might make a drawer like this!

These are great tips Ashley. We have different sizes bottles of spices so our drawers seem to be bursting in the seams with spices. I tried the clear container box method but then my hubby can’t find the smaller ones that are stacked on top of each other! 🙁 Will need to do something like this.

This spice drawer is such a great idea, Ashlee. I love my kitchen drawers organised too. I’ve got my spices on the wall of the pantry, and also think alphabetical order works best. Loving your labels!
