5 Things you need to do after you publish a blog post

What you do after you publish a blog post can have a huge impact on the life of your blog. You can ask any blogger about one of the biggest struggles they face, and it usually is just getting people to see their new post! It is something that we all have seriously struggled with at one time or another. I recently spoke about promoting your blog post, but what else should you do? Over the years, I have developed a strategy that not only allows me to promote my blog, but it has almost automated itself as well.

Share it on social

This is 100% the first thing you should do after you publish a blog post. Listen, social media is a blogger’s best friend. Not only is it a great way to connect with fellow bloggers, but it also is essentially free marketing! When I started writing, I felt so weird about promoting my own content. Not only did I think it wasn’t perfect, but I was so afraid that people would judge me for it. It hit me one day that if they can share the same meme that has been circulating the internet for five years, why can’t I share my blog post? After all, I worked hard on it!

I have a pretty set routine right now which has been working wonders! I’ve previously talked about the Over App and how easy it is to use. I create my Pinterest and Twitter graphics using this app at night. This means that I can put everything on my social channels first thing in the morning. Creating the graphics at night creates a less hectic morning, and can take the stress away after you publish a blog post. I even create my captions at night so that I can make them more personal and detailed.

Pinterest is by itself in this category because it is technically more of a search engine. Even though there are social attributes to the platform, it is just how I feel. In a previous post, I shared how I created my graphics, and why I think it is important to create a few graphics for the same post. It increases the chance of someone clicking on your content, and that is exactly what we are hoping for! I make sure to have keywords in my pin descriptions, as well as hashtags that relate to the topic.

From Pinterest, I’ll add my content into my Tailwind Tribes, Smart Loops, and schedule. I think that Tailwind is the best tool for blogging, and it has made the craziest difference in my blog traffic, email list, and overall engagement across all of my platforms. It also is a great way to help share your fellow blogger’s content, so everyone wins!

Speaking of email lists

If you’re part of The Brunch Club, then you probably know what I’m talking about! After you publish a blog post, you need to put it in your email. People have busy lives, and they aren’t always to check your blog for new content. Your email list is a way to get into the inbox of someone who genuinely wants to see your content. Show them your new content, and don’t forget to share some older, more popular posts just in case they missed them. I add an image from the post, the title, and a small snippet of what they post is about. Try and make this as concise as you can!

Don’t forget to update after you publish a blog post!

I cannot stress this enough! Your older content is just as good as your new content, so don’t forget to keep it fresh. If I can refer back to a post at any time, I’ll do that. I’ll also go back to the older post and link it back to my newer post. Build up those backlinks, your SEO will pay off in the end! You can also update your photos as you go, which is something that I love doing. My photography style changes all of the time, and maybe one day I’ll find something I enjoy. You can also repurpose these updated posts to share on social media!

Reply to comments

Blog comments are quite the prize now. It seems like people just don’t have time to comment, or just don’t want to. If someone is taking the time to comment on your blog, then you should be there to reply to comments. After you publish a blog post, take the time to respond to anyone who comments, and this is also a great tip for Instagram too! Providing thoughtful or meaningful feedback can help to extend the conversation beyond the blog too!

I loved this post! I know I was hesitant to share my stuff on social media as well because it felt weird promoting myself. But once you just go for it, it’s totally worth it! And I also want to say that I overall LOVE the layout of your blog! Super cute! 🙂
