On your self-love journey, finding the perfect self-care practices can be hard. Everyone tells you to take a bath, get outside, dance to your favorite music. While those are all things you should do, they are not going to help you make any big changes in your life. Here are 7 self-care practices that you can do to have big and positive changes in your life.
Eliminate Bad Habits
If you are looking to uplevel your life, then you need to be ready to make changes in your life. Take a good look at the habits that you currently have. How many of those are aligned with who you want to be, or the where you want to be. Realistically, we all have bad habits, but those habits do not define us.
To identify your bad habits, take a quick “soul inventory” as I tend to call it. This is where you just take a look at everything you do on the regular. Are you wanting to be more productive but neglecting sleep and drinking too much? Once you know what bad habits you have, take the time to create a good habit that you can do instead to help you on your shift.
Find Your Purpose
Personally, one of the best things that I ever did was to find my purpose. Not only was I able to really see what I wanted for my life, where I needed to work on myself, and where I could show up more for others as well. Don’t get me wrong, this is a hard step. It took me years to figure out what my purpose was, and I personally believe that our purpose evolves over time. Who we were meant to be at 21 is definitely not who we are mean to be in our thirties. trust me.
Finding your purpose can be done through practices such as meditation, journaling, and gratitude journals. I also want to take a moment to say that courses and finding a coach or mentor is a great step. While it is an investment, it can help your growth process so much, it has been one of the best things I have chosen to do.
Practice Gratitude Daily
I love the idea of practicing gratitude because so many of us forget to do it. We like to think about how hard things are, what we don’t have, and mostly negative things. By practicing gratitude, you are training your mind to focus on the good things in your life. They can be as small as making your favorite coffee in the mornings, or as intense as a 30-day gratitude challenge to help shift your mindset!
Practicing gratitude always puts me in a better frame of mind. I focus on how lucky, privileged, and grateful I am for the life that I do have. Thinking this way is the same as using positive affirmations. After all, your brain is going to believe whatever you tell it. If you are telling it that you are thankful for an amazing life and surrounded by positive things, it is going to believe it.
Take Care of Your Health
Something that I personally put on the back burner for many years was my actual physical health. I either didn’t have the money, the time, or any real need to visit a doctor. While luckily I came out fine, taking care of your health should be one of your main self-care practices. Many things can go wrong in our bodies without us ever realizing it. So, schedule that pap smear, now!
Connect With Your Intuition
Oh my gosh! How many of us have either believed that we couldn’t do something we wanted to do or even talked ourselves out of even trying? Probably most of us, right?! Your intuition may seem woo-woo to some people, but we all have this ability to sense when something is good for us, and when it is not.
I challenge you to start with something small. When you get dressed in the morning, think about what you want to wear. Pick out what feels good for you. If that means you are wearing a gown to the kitchen, then so be it. You need to start learning how to trust yourself, and you can start literally right now. If your gut is telling you to do something, just do it and see what happens.
We are a product of our environment. How many times have you heard that before? The actions of those around us influence how we view the world and even how we view ourselves. If you are surrounding yourself with people who are constantly gossiping or thriving off of other people’s misery, where and how are you celebrating the good things in life? Chances are you are not!
Take some time to think about where, when, and with who you feel like your best self. These are the areas that you should be focusing on. You should be avoiding anything that is not aligned with who you want to be. Additionally, if someone or something is making you feel bad, 9/10 times you can walk away from it. If you are on Instagram, then you may want to take a look at the people you are engaging with and following!
Understand Your “Why”
Honestly, so many of us are not doing this. We want to achieve certain things, but we do not know why. Maybe you want a perfect vacation, but other than photos, why do you want it? Are you needing a break, an energy reset? Knowing why you want to do something is the first step to not only receiving that wish, but also to help you understand yourself better.
For those of you who are into manifesting, you should also yourself why you want to manifest whatever it is. If it is not something to enhance your life internally, is it something you should be manifesting? For those who are just on a spiritual path, why do you want to meditate daily? What do you think you are going to get out of it.
Being clear about why you want something will not only help you stay focused, but it will encourage and motivate you to turn that action in a healthy, life-long habit as well.
