If you are starting a journey in self love, then you may know that it can seem intimidating. In your journey, there should be nothing that is scary about improving your life and creating your own happiness. For those who are starting out, here are 5 self love activities that you can incorporate into your every day life.
One of the easiest self love activities you can do is to have some sort of meditation routine. Meditation is something that you can do in the morning, in the middle of the day, or even right before bed. This is one of my favorite practices because I appreciate the stillness that comes with meditation. I find that I am able to think about what I want to accomplish that day or what I did accomplish that day.
Meditation is also a great way to calm down any anxiety you may be experiencing. We all experience a certain level of anxiety, and that is just part of life. The good news is that regular meditation can be a type of therapy that essentially costs you nothing. Youtube has so many different types of meditations so you can find one that fits your needs. I have personally been using Headspace on my phone and it has been really easy to add into my daily life.
Gone are the days of those journals we used to hide under out mattresses! Journaling is one of the most popular self love activities for those who may be more introverted. It can difficult for many of us to talk about our feelings, especially when we are talking about something as personal as how we see ourselves. Journaling allows you a private place to get out your thoughts and emotions so that the universe can help you heal.
Maybe the idea of writing in a literal journal does not sound appealing to you, and that is fine! Personally, I have found much more gratification and success when I take the time to write things down. You can also practice journaling on your phone or computer. Additionally, journal prompts are perfect if you are just starting out, or you could just write out a few things you are grateful for each day.
Positive affirmations are one of the most basic self love activities that you can do. You can add them to your morning meditation or journal prompts, or you can just repeat them to yourselves in moments of need. There has been scientific and higher education research about how positive affirmations can slow down or even stop you from feeling negative about yourself.
If you are looking for some positive affirmations to add to your daily routine, here is a list of 20 that I have created that you can use for any occasion!
Keep a Self Love Quickie Notebook
I spend a lot of time listening to meditations, Youtube videos, and podcasts. Sometimes there are little nuggets of information that I think are really important to remember. I keep a note section on my phone and I will jot down a thought or a sentence from a video I am watching or something I am listening to. Typically these are things that are specifically resonating with me, and things I need to pay more attention to.
I highly recommend trying this out for a week or two. With this note section in your phone, you can easily jump back to it if you are having a day where you may not being your best self. You can also use these sentences and thoughts as prompts for your journal, or as a list of theories and ideas that you want to explore more in the future!
Declutter Your Life
Lastly, take a look at your life. Where do you hang out? Who are your friends? What is something you do each day? It may be time to do a life audit. A life audit can help you identify what is building you up, and what is keeping you down. Chances are you have some toxicity in your life. Identify what is making you feel less than your best self. If it is something you can easily eliminate, cut those ties! This may also make you have some difficult conversations, but nothing good ever comes easy.
