4 Ways to Improve Your Mental Health in 2020

The new year is almost here, and it is a great time to start working on your resolutions or personal goals for next year. From what I have gathered talking to a lot of you, we have all had some problems this year that are easily avoidable. To get ready, here are four ways that you can improve your mental health for the new year!

improve mental health

Make sure you are taking care of your health

My actual health is something that I have put on the back burner for a few years, but this past year I have been taking the necessary steps to make sure that I am physically healthy as well as being mentally well. If you haven’t been to the doctor in a while, then make sure you are making those appointments in the new year. Not only is this going to improve your mental health by taking some of the stress out of possibly being sick, but it also will actually make sure you are in good health too!

Create reasonable goals

Earlier I mentioned that we are all working on goals. Even if you don’t write yours down, resolutions can still be considered as goals. While you are thinking of what you want to do in 2020, make sure those goals are actually reasonable. One of the worst things you can do is to make extreme goals that you either are going to struggle to meet, or not meet at all. Now, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t have lofty goals, but try creating smaller goals within one larger goal which are easier to obtain. This will help keep you encouraged along the way!

Leave the bad behind

If you have had some bad times this year, do not take them with you into the new year. Although “new year, new me” is a super cliche statement, there is some truth to it. You can take a look back over the next few days and see what was the root cause of your problems. If it is a negative friend, a toxic relationship, or just some bad habits, then your “goal” may be to move on past whatever is holding you back or causing you stress. The same goes for social media, if anything is making you feel bad, a digital detox may be in order!

Don’t be afraid to ask for help

There are many of us that ignore our mental health issues, I know that I certainly used to! If you feel like you need to talk to someone, then you totally should. This is a great way to get something off of your chest, and that other person may be able to identify what is really bothering you. This can be a friend or a certified therapist, just make sure you are taking steps to improve your mental health. The same goes for medication, if you think it will benefit you, don’t be afraid to get the help you need.

These are awesome! Health, both mental and physical, is so important. We need to take care of ourselves. I am trying to put my physical and mental health in the forefront in 2020. I’ve also put those on the backburner for far too long.

I hope you have a Happy New Year, friend!

These are great tips and perfect for this time of year. I usually feel stuck too because I am unmotivated. I like the idea of smaller goals. It definitely makes it more attainable.

For sure, I think a lot of us get caught up in our giant goals, and we get discouraged too quickly!

I love this! I never used to set goals, and it was to avoid the disappointment of not reaching them. Now I realise the goals I set weren’t reasonable and since I changed them it’s improved my mental health loads! This is such a great post xx
