4 Ways To Stop Feeling Worthless

For some reason, I have been having quite a down past few weeks. I feel like I’m not doing everything that I could be doing. I’ve been quite open about my depression on the blog. Even with positive practices and prescribed medication, sometimes I cannot stop feeling worthless. Here are four ways that I am working to change that!

feeling worthless

Realize why you’re feeling that way

There have been a lot of times where I just feel lame. I hate saying that, but it is the honest truth. Since I work online, I always feel like my social media isn’t good enough, my blog sucks, or that I’m just not interesting.

I don’t know when we started to let the internet make us start feeling worthless, but it has! If you’re feeling this way, then I think it is important for you to think about why you’re feeling that way!

If you read my post about steps I am taking to manage my depression, then you remember that burying thoughts and feelings is going to get you nowhere! Figure out what is causing you to feel worthless, and face it. Maybe you just need a hobby, a change of scenery, or new friends!

Find something new to do

I’m currently in the middle of building a house, so eventually, that is going to be my brand new hobby! For now, there isn’t much that I can do. Finding a new hobby is not only a great way to learn a new skill, but it can stop you from feeling worthless!

Coincidentally, I started blogging when I was having a really tough depression phase. I knew that I had to find something that gave me joy, kept my mind off of those bad thoughts, and taught me something that I may not have known before.

If there is something that you have always wanted to do, then maybe this is the best time for you to start doing it! Start that blog, create that jewelry line, get out there and try new things!

Take a look at the world around you

*Down here on the ocean floor*, but in all seriousness, seriously look around. Maybe you need to update your interior decor, maybe you need to spend more time outside, or maybe someone around you is just straight-up bringing you down!

I’ve had my fair share of dealing with toxic people. The only way that you can get that negativity out of your life is by getting rid of them. Even if you can’t move on from them, (family!), what you can do is just spend less time around them.

In the same vein, your environment has a lot to do with your mood. If you’re feeling worthless, then look around at what you have. Maybe you have those pants that you swear you’ll fit in again. If you’re not using something right now, then you shouldn’t let it clutter your life.

Maybe you need a little self-love

I know that self-love is kinda a trend right now, but it is something we all need all the time! If you let yourself get too run down, then it will take a physical toll on your mind and body.

Don’t be afraid to turn down those late-night drinks with the girls, or that barbecue with your mom’s side of the family. If you don’t want to do something, then don’t do it.

I’ve written a post about how important self-love is and a few ways that you can practice it more often in your life. Even if you are super busy, I swear that you have enough time in the day to take care of you! Here is an article from Psychology Today with some more tips!

Thanks for sharing this wonderful post! I also definitely struggle with feelings of worthlessness and one of the biggest things that has helped me over the years is reading books on the topic. I know self-help books get a bad rap, but I think it’s all about finding something that helps you…
